Default Dave Hudson fly fishes local large reservoirs with his boat for years.

Dave use to tie thousands of flies for the shop some years ago.

He still ties some special flies for shops but is slowing down at 72.

For the past decade he has fly fished many of the low elevation reservoirs for bass.

He told me he uses lighter fly rods with very fast sinking lines.

He goes for the bass in these larger reservoirs February thought May.

Maybe this Spring I can get out with Dave to get some coaching.....?

Folks that think bass are only a warm weather fish are really missing out. The spots don't care how cold it is and often feed aggressively all winter. I can't tell you how many times I have actually seen big spots and largemouth eat a glide bait or swimbait right at the boat in 48 degree water. I know these same fish will eat a stripped fly also. Not saying it happens like that every day but it's worth putting the time in. Lakes that have trout and Kokanee will have the biggest bass.
I spent Wednesday on Oroville and absolutely hammered the spots in shallow water. I'm sure I could have been successful with a flyrod and will definitely put a couple long rods back in the boat for the next trip.

Thanks for that inspiring info MT.......

I think us fly fishers need to get our boats out on these lower elevation reservoirs in the winter with these new super fast sinking lines?

Bass fishing is 365 days a year. Some of my best days have been in the worst weather in the winter.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!
