    Default Sage RPL+ 9'6 5wt - any good?

I bought something off someone today and they would only do a deal with me if I also bought this rod. So I did but I'm not much of a one hander guy. It's old but in mint condition. Are these rods any good? Are they worth anything?

    It's a two piece 9'6" 5wt (RPL+ 596) Graphite III

    Thanks in advance.

I sold almost every fly rod that was produced in the past 50 years.

These were very fast, stiff rods so most used a fly line one size larger to get them to load.

It would make a good big trout and light/medium steelhead rod with a WF6F on it.

    Good heavier lake rod too.

That was top of the line Sage maybe 25 years ago?

I used to have that rod , it was killer . Brought a fresh Hen King around 15 Lbs. in on the lower American once with it - 8 Lb. tippet , took all of 5 minutes ..... absurd amount of reserve power in the butt .

Sold it years ago during lean times for an anniversary gift for my Wife . I still miss it ....

Thanks for the info folks. I may just pass it on for a few dollars. 15lb Salmon on a 5wt? Wow. That must have given you quite the bragging rights and a whole lot of fun at the same time. Especially on 8lb tippet. I get nervous with 5lb steelies on 8lb tippet!

I had that rod as well- good stick but more of a 5.5 or a 6 wt in my opinion.

A very good SH half pounder rod.

Price? online shows a very wide range.

Only managed 2 weeks in July/August , Boss . Hoping for a Month starting in mid-December , but not sure at the moment .

Skyler - The RPL+ was a strange taper , and I'd agree w/ Mr. T that it is much closer to a 6 wt. than a 5 . Good luck with your sale !!
