Default One of my dearest old friends, Mike Ziem passed away.

Mike had a serious stroke a few month ago which paralyzed his entire side.

His wife Terry and family took good care of Mike.

I am glad he did not have to suffer very long after his terrible stroke.

Mike was part of our group of dedicated fly fishers back in the 1970s.

We were all young and fished like mad men on the lower American river.

Mike was in the heavy equipment business with an extreme knowledge of every yellow tractor that moved dirt.

Our group consisted of Me, Mike, Bob Giannoni, Al Perryman, my brother Dick, Galen Geller, Don Rotsma to name a few.

We had a lot of good days together chasing all kinds of fish that would eat a fly.

When I was going through a very tough part of my life Mike let me live with him and gave me a job at his heavy equipment

company. Who does that for people? That gives you a small idea of what a good man Mike was.

    Billy -

Well, hell! In addition to being a wonderful friend, Mike was one of the most caring and generous people on this earth. He was also a
bit of a "Hell Cat" in the most charming and complimentary way. Financially, in the mid-1970s some of our group were pretty poor, myself included. And Mike always insisted on treating to meals at Walt's Cafe which was located next to Billy's first Fly Shop on El Camino Avenue. While Mike always generously pushed the "Steak and Eggs", he also felt that a person could eat 3 "Square Meals" a day at Walt's.

Mike and I did catch some fish together with one evening at Chile Bar, now over 40 years ago, remaining as fresh as if it were just yesterday.

Please say hi to Peggy for me!

    With Tears, Bob

I've had business dealings with Mr.Giannoni and he is one of nature's gentlemen.

Had to go to a vigil for a long time family friend last night, and another tomorrow. It's times like these where you recall the grace and dignity some people bring to the world just by being themselves.
