Klamath or Lower Trinity

Just got a hall pass for the next four days. Just wondering which one you guys think might fish better. I have fished the lower Klamath (Blakes & the Glen). I have never fished down stream of Del Loma on the "T". I will be swinging the time

I would fish the middle Klamath from Johnson's Bar upstream to Somes Bar, starting down at Johnson's.

Get two StreamTime maps, one of the Klamath and one of the Trinity.

If there are no fish in the Klamath just start fishing up the Trinity from the mouth at Weitchpec.


If you need a good guide they have good ones at the Trinity Fly Shop.

Terry Thomas and Dave Mathews are headed up there to fish with top guide Jason Hartwick.

Tyler Wells is guiding out of Somes Bar.


If you want to get connected with the Klamath and /or /Trinity river I would get a good guide.



If there are no anglers, no cars and no boats there are probably no fish in that part of the river.

Keep moving until you see some action......


Be sure to get out real early, take a break mid-day and fish up til dark in the evenings.

I use a floating line, long leader to 1x and size 6 or 8 dark fly, barbless.

Bill is spot on - fish Johnson's to Somes or even Green Riffle and you will find fish. Excellent bank access and now is the time, especially with the cooler weather.

I’ve been on the Trinity the last few days. Been far from red hot but there are fish around. Klamath might be better.

Last week Terry Thomas and friends were in the lower Klamath river in a jet boat with guide Alan Borges and had a good trip so I would

guess the Orleans area would be good by now.

How far down were you? I’ll be on the Trinity late next week, was planning on Willow Creek to the confluence and possibly Klamath as well. Usually find some fish this time of year, but has been anywhere from DC to Hyampom depending on the year. Limited searching time this trip. Would appreciate any info - thanks!

Just got back from 4 days on the lower Klamath. Lots of fish on the move. Hooked more adults than 1/2 pounders. Lots of rain and cloud cover earlier in the week. Great fishing, now is go time!

+1 to Pete's comment. We were at Johnson's a week ago and had similar results.

Watch out for bears, if you are camping. We had one attempt to break in to the camper shell on the truck. Fortunately, he wasn't a Yosemite bear and he got scared off when we yelled at him. The trash bag was locked in the back of the truck, not such a good idea in retrospect.
