My first trout on a fly was from the front of Joe Ng's canoe on Lake Solano, Putah Creek in the 1970s.

There use to be a very large mid-day Callibaetis may fly emergence but not so much now.

After that experience we started float tubing over there with our Tucker Duck & Rubber Company canvas round float tubes.

We used Seal-Dri seamless pure latex stocking foot waders with swim fins.

We used a 5 weight fiberglass outfit with a Cortland WF5F Peach 444 fly line, 9' 5x Berkley knotless tapered leader, 2 feet of

Gladding Gladel 6x tippet material from France and a #16 Red Quill dry fly.

At around 1:00 pm in the summer fish would rising all over the smooth cold water.

Lots of planted fish but them some really big wild ones too.

Al Hulbert of Cook Reality in Sacramento had a magnificent 10 pound wild Rainbow trout mounted in his office he caught on a black

leech.

Gal Geller once fought a big Brow trout for hours out of his float tube above the lower bridge.

Old members from the Flyfishers of Davis fly club fished there too.

Don Childress DDS of Davis was a top fly fisher of that time.

He was very advanced and out fished most of us newbies.
