I met two retired fly fishers a few years ago on the Lower Klamath River who had a small 12 foot prop outboard boat, wading a nice riffle.

One guy said he is up there in a travel trailer for 3 months.

His friend says he only stays for one month.

They just used a trout outfit with a floating line swinging some size 10 "home made" nymphs.

They obviously see some ridiculously good fishing almost every Fall.

    From the Times Standard today.

The state Water Quality Monitoring Council has warned that the waters at Stone Lagoon Beach in Orick have a dangerous level of harmful algal blooms. It issued a warning about swimming in Big Lagoon County Park in Trinidad, where toxic algae has been detected but not at as high levels as Stone Lagoon. The council cautions against recreating in the Klamath River above the Trinity River confluence and downstream of Iron Gate Reservoir, which along with Copco Reservoir, has dangerous levels of toxic algae.
Fishing is always good, the catching may not be.

Ran around the lower river the past few days. Found some 1/2 lbrs and several nicer adults. I'll trade 25 1/2 lbrs for an adult any day. That said the 1/2 lbr show was a bit off. Love the trad flies, Burlap's make me happy!

Slow salmon fishing to start turned into a lot of hookups yesterday which was encouraging.

Amazed how many do not respect the closure around the mouth of Blue Creek (not fly guys) its such a special spot that merits some reverence.

    Thanks for that report Andy.......

That lower river is so beautiful and fun from a jet boat.

Oh man I hope that proves true. Most "late" anadromous runs don't meet expectations in my experience.

In the case of 1/2 lbrs they are like clockwork and though they come in waves the biggest and first late August wave never came. I usually am in Orleans several times through September but likely will stay away until I hear some encouraging reports. Last year's fat 1/2 lbr run should make for a good adult run this year (I'm praying).

Though I wasn't fishing salmon there was a lot of murmuring on the day everyone was hooking up that the bulk of the run was here, just late, having waited for the water to cool...

    Undam the Klamath!

I’ll be on the Trinity Sat-Tues and will post a report. I expect it to fish decent.
