    Default Half-pounder Report

Had a superb day this week swinging flies for half-pounders mid-river. Got on the water about mid-day and made plenty of new friends in a series of nice riffles. Found most fish high up in the riffles, i.e. in the oxygenated water.

Used a floating line and 9ish' leader down to 4x, occasionally throwing a micro-shot on to account for speed/depth changes.

Flies didn't seem to matter too much so long as they were small and buggy, but i really like size 16s with soft hackles.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the report! Time to bust out the lightweight Spey and long lines. Love fishing unweighted systems this time of year!

Bill, ran into fish from 12 to just over 20, with most around 14. Only ran into two wild fish, the rest were fin-clipped. Oddly, I seem to run into more wild fish on the lower river and more clipped fish higher up, though I've never thought of that until now.

I fished upper river mid day yesterday for no bumps- starting to think I forgot how to catch!

Yes, when ever we would go down the run, AM or PM, above the Watt avenue bridge without a bump we wondered if it was us when in fact there was just no body home.

Try AM and PM in the late summer and early fall.

Skated a couple of mid-river riffles this evening, ran into a bunch of smolts that were enthusiastic but too small to get their mouth around the fly. Fun to watch. Gorgeous evening to be out, minus any hookups.

Thinking about floating it tomorrow. Any suggestions? Never floated past Gristmill. Gonna try swinging a few runs.
