Had a superb day this week swinging flies for half-pounders mid-river. Got on the water about mid-day and made plenty of new friends in a series of nice riffles. Found most fish high up in the riffles, i.e. in the oxygenated water.
Used a floating line and 9ish' leader down to 4x, occasionally throwing a micro-shot on to account for speed/depth changes.
Flies didn't seem to matter too much so long as they were small and buggy, but i really like size 16s with soft hackles.
