    Default Adventures with Doug

Aloha. my friend Doug Howard from Portland visited the Big Island for a week and we had a couple of days doing Hawaii things. this is him with a nice mahi he got on the fly.

He got a couple of small ahi and aku on his 12wt. We wanted a big ahi but only had one hit and it shook the hook on a lure.

We had a good day out of Hilo and got plenty of fish for his family that was visiting.

Doug likes to pig hunt so he got to stick a couple.

We went offshore in Kona for a day and got this nice 35lb ono on a diver. Lots of good grinds.

Doug has an obsession for milkfish and was able to get this nice one on the kona side.

I took his family to snorkel with the mantas one night, they were all pretty amazed.

Doug went back to Portland, but I have kept fishing. Got this ulua yesterday while bottom fishing for snappers. Thought it was a shark at first. Hope you all have a good summer, Mems.

    Wonderful post and pictures Don......

They actually raise Milk fish in the bay / estuary at Christmas Island plus they are running wild too.

One day our guide and boat man were eating dried raw Milk fish so I tried some.

If you can eat anchovies or mackerel raw then you could eat raw Milk fish.

Raw those fish are very fishy tasting......cooked they are not.

Jim May and I are heading to Kona the first of September and planning on getting together with Don too. Hopefully we'll have Don to join us fishing and show us around. We've already reserved a boat for a couple of days and Don has the way-points so we're set.

What really looks neat is that milkfish. I just broke a rod on one at Christmas Island a month ago. They are surprisingly tough strong fish.

This is the one that broke my rod,,,,,,,, but Jim's is a lot bigger.

    Can't wait for Kona, Tony
