......on the mid-elevation (3,000'-6,000') streams.

Higher elevation (8,000'+) is usually Aug/Sept like for back packers and horse/mule trips.

Then again October is usually really good at the mid-elevation streams.

Every stream has a slightly different prime time which also varies yearly due to the winter snow pack, etc.

On average trout seem to have a comfort range of 55 to 75 degrees.

With a thermometer you can tell what is going on in a stream.

If it s just getting into the 50s you know it is just starting for this stream.

If it is in the 70s you might assume this stream is going into the mid-summer doldrums.

Again, October is the "second season" for great Fall fishing as temperatures cool off from the summer's heat.

One of my top picks for a great trout stream trip in June would be to get some lodging reserved in Dunsmuir, CA.

Book some days with top Nor Cal guide Fred Gordon.

Go to Kiene's Fly Shop on the weekend and have Andy Guibord check out your tackle.

When in Dunsmuir go into the Ted Fay Fly Shop with Fred and get some good local flies.

Getting with a good Nor Cal fly fishing guide for the first day of a 3 day or week long trip is smart.

Also checking with the closest fly shop to the stream or streams in mind is good too.
