And that’s why Salmo Salar means the leaper. I’m going to Nova Scotia in July to try for them; can’t sleep already.

Cool.....
I was on the Meramichi river maybe 15 years ago with Joe Shirshac and friends.
It was in the Fall and they had some rain before we got there.
I did witness two big chrome fish (20# plus) get caught right below me.
They were incredible fighters and then I got my one 6# grilse (small salmon) for the week.
My guide or gillie told me he takes the first two weeks of July off every year and fishes himself.
He also said the difference between 0 and 1 on an Atlantic Salmon fishing trip is huge.
Then he gave me a small round lovely pin the size of a dime with an Atlantic salmon on it.
In Nova Scotia we had to have a gillie with us to fish the river and they charged $25 a day.
It was a deal that the government made to keep the old guys in tobacco and liquor money.

Nova Scotia is all public waters, no guide required. That said, I’m using one to learn the nuances. If I go back next year I may go solo. Guides run about 250-300/day CAD ($220-240 USD). Pretty cheap compared to west coast.
