Had a pretty good day. Fished mid river until it got crowded so I fished the upper river in the afternoon. Then I went out with Andy in his Lowe this evening and we found a bunch of fish. The usual flies worked: Maria, Firecracker and Wet Pinky!

Hey Jeff, could you possibly share your Firecracker recipe? Show a picture or a link? Anything and everything appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Had and epic day! Fished this morning and got into double digits in a couple of hours. Then I floated in the afternoon with Earle Sloan and we got triple digits to the boat. Hot flies were the Firecracker, Maria and Earle’s Ronald McDonald!

The river is high and cold......7,810 cfs and 54 degrees.

This is normally a formula for drowning so be very careful.

Have something on the bottom of your wading boots, felt, studs.

Have a belt around your waste on your waders.

    Have a wading staff....

    Don't get too deep.

Great advice Bill! The guy that drowned last year at Sailor Bar Island wasn’t wearing a belt! My friend Danny (The Kid) saw him go in and called 911.

Earle and I floated today and it was a lot slower in the usual spots. We found a spot where they were holding and got almost 50 to the boat. Same flies as yesterday: Firecracker, Maria and Ronald McDonald,

What size hook are you using?

In the past 50 years Shad flies have really gotten smaller.

Many years ago a Size 4 and 6 were popular sizes.

Jeff and I are running size 10 TMC 2457 hooks. Can’t go wrong with it.
