Two sea lions were going to town at Sailor Bar according to Victor who I ran into midday. Don’t know if they followed shad upriver but from my own personal experience there aren’t many shad in the American yet!

Taking my son from the OV over to Folsom for a couple of lacrosse games, CLOUDS of cottonwood fuzz flying around. If Jeff hasn’t hung one there may not be many, but there has to be at least one shad all the way upriver! My first in the upper river last year was May 15, so it’s time.

Caught my first shad on the American 5/5 last year. They will be here soon and I suspect a few have made it to the upper river based on the sea lion activity.

I know! I ran one last week that was across the trail while I was walking from the river. Good thing I saw it because it didn’t rattle. Still no shad for me and I saw a lot of anglers trying on a float today.

Caught 5 small males this morning mid-river before being surrounded by bobber guys. Fished using Type 6 sink tip and a Bloody Maria with a Firecracker dropper. All were caught on the dropper. See you in 3 months Honey!

    Yahoo....

Flow is at 9.000 cfs which is a little high but will suck in lots of fish.

For those who can go daily for the next 3 months I would try to get some time set aside in June.

Captain Andy Guibord will be guiding for Shad, Stripers and Half-pounder Steelhead now.

Hooray and nicely done Mr. C! A shad is a shad; and that is a great sign.

It often does seem like lots of males are around in the early window . . . but there's gotta be a hen down there somewhere, or the boys would be somewhere else.
