Debating what to do on my morning off tomorrow. Shad near home or trout on the dropping Yuba. Or maybe a small stream. Might be the only midweek day I get locally all summer. Decisions.
Fished this morning with a Skagit and the evening with Scandi and I dug the Scandi a lot. Got into double digits with both but the Scandi was not as cliunky as the Skagit. Flies that caught fish were the Firecracker and the Red Lipstick.
Flow today on the American says 6,400 cfs.......

The lower flow has brought the crowds this evening. Most were gear guys (I only saw 3 other fly fishermen) and lots of boats. Not but catching by most but I got well into double digits using a Scandi body and a 15 ft 7 ips poly leader. Flies that worked were the Firecracker and the Red Lipstick (my version of Andy’s Lipstick that I tweaked with some upgrades).
flow is going down to 5,640 cfs on 6/21/2019 Friday, so this weekend should be good for wading.

Took the mini out today and did very well. Without a breeze it was cooking but I averaged over 10 per hour so it was a good day. LC13 and a Red Lipstick got her done!

Went out midday on the mini and was hooking then left and right at first then it slowed down. I think the flow drop made them move to deeper water. Caught a couple of big hens (19 and 20+ inches). I moved around and ended up with over 70 using 30 ft of LC13 and a M-80 with a Red Lipstick dropper!
