a few years ago, i hiked up a half mile from NFFR and fished the canyon stretch. it was a gorgeous stretch of water. that being said, i didn't have much luck, perhaps a few dinks. there are some mining claims that you need to steer clear of but otherwise it seems pretty accessible despite some steep grades. has anyone else had any luck in the canyon stretch?

Yep. A while back (10 yrs ago), Jeff Ching and I did some exploring in the canyon. We just parked on the main dirt road and hiked down into the canyon. This was below Humbug Valley a few miles. It's very lush down there with some really nice plunge pools and pocket water. We caught plenty of fish nymphing and a few on dries. Rainbows and browns. Nothing real big. Lots of 8-10 inchers. But there are some decent sized fish in there. It's a cool spot if you happen to be camping up that way. I wouldn't make a special trip there. You're pretty much guaranteed solitude though.
