I guess it is a Giant Trevally......
These are one of the baddest fish that you can catch while wading on the flats in the Pacific.
At Christmas Island we would have our guide carry a good 10 weight outfit just for
large Trevally and Barracuda.
Here is a video that shows how wild it gets when Trevally come in after something.

THAT was awesome.
I'll be back at Christmas Island again this coming April. I'll be targeting the GT's mainly over the bonefish though I've caught quite a few small GT's while fishing for the bones with an 8 wt. All of the trevallys are voracious feeders and don't seem to mind taking anything that gets in their way.
Here's a pair that I needed two rods for. After getting one in others were trying to take the fly out of it's mouth so I cast my light rod and got a second one.
These smaller Gt's are real fun too on a light rod. Sort of like chasing baby tarpon with a 9 wt. The problem comes when you run into a real giant,,,,,, and you're holding your light rod

The Huff Dam is always a good spot for them...
Way to go Don. I know folks taken off the cliffs at night on the Big Island but is there anywhere there a person might go after them with a fly?

Halape, Kahuku ranch, A-bay, makalawena, I have caught them at all of these places on a fly. If you were to just target them I would only fish a 12wt. I usually target papio, like the pair you have in your last picture. I can tell you I have lost many big ones on an 8 wt and 15lb leader. You might get one or two shots at them just working an area with a 12wt. It would be a long day. Don.
