Default FS: Vintage Everett Garrison Fly Rod 204 7'6" 2/2

Up for sale is a wonderful piece of fly fishing history - an Everett Garrison bamboo fly rod. This is a model 204, which is 7'6" 2/2. All sections are full length and straight. Comes with the original tube and rod sock. The rod is all original and has no evidence of damage, repair or alteration. The rod has been in the same family for the past 60+ years. It is marked Garrison - 204 7' - 6" - 3 - oz. It weighs 3.2 ounces on my postal scale.

The varnish is soft and demonstrates bag marks. One of the wraps has loosened. The cork is soiled. The new owner will have the option of leaving the rod all original or alternatively could have it competently restored. Either way this is an iconic and uncommon fly rod worthy of any collection.

Asking price is $4350 shipped, PM if interested.

    Thanks for looking

    Hiddentreasure,
This is the same rod that was sold on the big auction site in May.
    Were you the buyer then?

What line size does it feel best with?

If you bought it and had it refurbished you would have to find on of the few people who could handle that properly.

Many collectible vehicles, fire arms and split cane rods have their value destroyed by well meaning people who work on them.

If you are not sure about who to send it to it is best to leave it alone.

Here is a response from Jim Adams of Adams Angling in Berkeley, CA.

Jim is a retired fisheries biologist from the Great Generation and an expert on vintage fly tackle and books.

    Bill-

Hard top say without seeing the rod. If it is as he describes it, the price is about right. Most fly rods are described by the average fisherman as better than they actually are. One person’s “Mint” may be only a “Fair” or “Good” because of faults not noticed. I ’ve seen Garrisons listed from $2000 to $10,000. Prices are lower now than the peaks before 2007.

A best guess would be 3-4 wt. Very rare rod.
"For years, every time he stopped at the house to collect his paper money, it was the same routine. The old man in the wheelchair would ask him how he'd like it if he took him fishing and showed him a few things. He always said he'd like that.
When the old man finally passed away, his wife gave the kid a box of flies. He has them today, tucked away in a closet, never to be fished."
