    Default Corning area help

Headed up for a rodeo weekend in a few weeks. Would like some very basic info about the area, I suppose the Sac is the most obvious bet. Wadable, swing water, indo’, etc..

Just looking for basics, as I’ll have probably one morning and one evening to get wet for a bit. PM if you prefer. Yes, I’m aware of hot-spotting and what I am asking, but gotta ask anyway.

    Thanks for the help

The Sac will be your closest option. I usually only fish from Red Bluff north so my familiarity for the Corning area accesses is very limited. The river is dropping so it is very wade-able right now. I have not checked for a few days but it was at 7680 (Bend Bridge) a couple of days ago. If you want to drive up to Red Bluff about 20 miles from Corning I can direct toy to a few spots. If you want to stay closer to Corning then north of Woodson Bridge area or over by Tehama.

Luk Lake is located a short distance from the Indian Casino in Corning. It is pay to play and can be booked for a half day through the Fly Shop. There is a good evening / morning top water bass bite and prams are available for a nominal fee. Shore fishing or wading is very limited there.

Local Nor Cal guide Tim Fox gave me this information for you.

"Tell him to wade into the Deer Creek access area at Woodson Bridge."

Mike Mercer of The Fly Shop in Redding, CA told me that October was his favorite month to fish the Lower Sacramento River.

He said the fish are very strong and powerful at this time of year.

I thought there was a Deer Creek access point at Woodson Bridge Park. Tim is a very good guide and very knowledgeable about this area. It has been a long time since I was down that way. There should be a few steelhead around with his timing. Last year the fishing for steelhead was very good, this year not so good so far.

Tim Fox is an amazing fly fishing guide, hunting guide and fly developer (Fox's Puppa).

Right now he is building himself a nice new home on the family ranch in Orland, CA on the Sacramento River.

Yes, Tim said they had an amazing run of Steelhead into the Coleman Hatchery on Battle Creek last Fall.
