Default Next week is perfect for Half-pounders in the lower American River.

The weather will cool down into the 80s........nice.

The flow will be down to around 2,200 cfs........perfect.

Over the past decades late August is when the Half-pounder push up into the Lower American River.

Sept/Oct is Fall Half-pounder time on the American.

Get a light fly fishing outfit out with a floating line, some longer leaders to 3x and small #10/12 wet flies, barbless.

Get some waders, boots and a long sleeve shirt together. AM and PM wading can be cold.

Put all this in our vehicle with some water and energy bars.

Now start going out real early and late for these lovely fish, before and after work if possible.

I would fish ever riffle from Watt Avenue down to Paradise Beach, one at a time.

Email, text or call me for any help.

This is a good time for someone to get started.

If we can get out timing together I can give some of you a cash course on the river which really helps people get started.

Otherwise, get together with guide/instructor Andy Guibord and have him take you out for Half-pounders as soon as we get word they are in the river.

    Hi Bill,
Hope all is well with retirement. I have been quite slow with the music business and cattle are off to the sales. Was thinking of trying some half pounders. Been a long time maybe I could hook up with you some time for that crash course refresher? let me know if that could work,

    Andy,

We might wait till we get a report of the first Half-pounders which should be somewhere below Watt Ave.
