Default 86 to 96 high temps for next 7 days in Sacramento

We are having a little cooling right now in Mid-August.

Get out trout fishing in early morning in the mountains.

Stripers are up in many Valley rivers and down in the Bay and along the beaches.

Bass & Panfish are good from 6am till noon.

Surf fishing should be good anywhere along the Pacific beaches.

Many go to ID /MT in July, Aug, Sept.

Alaska is good June through September.

Baja is usually good spring, summer and fall.

Stripers are in the Lower American River.

Half-pounders are due in late August.

Lower Sac is good AM and PM.

Let me know if you need any help planning a good trip.

I’ll trade you- I’m in tarpon springs right now and it’s been lightning and rain all morning. I’m trapped- i know when the weather is bad it’s a good day of fishing coming, but the lightning is inside 10 miles and blowing in. I’m dying here!

Bill, Been a really hot summer. Add in the smoke factor in the sierra/central valley/north state and its just horrible. 86 will feel cold. Best fishing has been in the morning until 11ish. Places like the East Walker are still very warm. I wouldn't fish that today until we get some T storms and cooler mornings. Most likely in early Sept it will be a go. West Walker is much cooler and better option. Truckee is good until about 11 in the canyon. In town and Reno still warm.
Any lake or creek above 8k and its game on all day. Just need to put in the work.

You are correct about the surf fishing. My family and I spent last weekend in half moon bay and I was anxious to get out to the surf to try out my new Spey setup. For at least 2 hours I had non stop action on the surf perch. Mostly walleyes and a few barred with some jack smelt in the mix. I also had multiple hookups with 2 on at a time. I was really hoping to tangle with some stripers but to no avail. Reading the water is the key to success when surf fishing. Weather was absolutely gorgeous as well. JB

    Jake

I hear reading the water is the answer to finding the fish.

Was emailing with a guy in Sana Cruz who goes out for a few hours every morning for years now.

He is getting lots of surf perch and some stripers right now.

Fly was a size 6 sandcrab imitation with orange on bottom rear of fly. The bigger ones would also hit a pink and white clouser when I took off one of the crabs in search of striper. Forgot to mention a dungenous crab also grabbed my clouser and wouldn’t let fly go when I was trying to get fly back. It grabbed it right behind the eyes of the clouser so that was a first for me. Trying to look up how to put pics of flies on here but nothing pops up. Help? Good luck if you go it’s reallly fun. JB
