Looks like DWR is going to hold more water back in September than previously thought. I suppose the mindset is that they can always increase flows if there is still a surplus in October...

Sorry, I should qualify that statement... I fish almost daily and year around (stripers, salmon, steelies) and forget that many don't...
I was referring to stripers. There are steelhead and/or trout to be had too and it should get better this fall and winter.
To wait for perfect conditions however, is to miss out on some of the best fishing the American River has to offer...
I like fishing the river when conditions are less than optimal because I have little company and the people I DO run into are people like Jeff Ching and Earle Sloan and good fishing under those conditions is way better (in my view) than lights-out fishing among a bunch of rafters, flossers, snaggers, redd-rapers, weekend warriors and other n'er-do-wells
