    Thumbs up Smallie Trip

Had a great trip with Captain Maury Hatch today. The fishin' and catchin' was fun. A bit breezy towards 11:00 am but for the most part casting was easy. All top water using poppers. We didn't keep a precise count but landed around 25, ldr'ed some and missed another bunch on the strike until we got into rhythm. Nothing gigantic but one was a fat legal sized Smallie, all released alive. A couple of 'em were absolutely suicidal, jumping onto the top of the popper and taking it into their mouths. The warm burritos were great. The Delta scenery is always good. We were off the water after 5 hours. What better way to spend a morning.

Maury Hatch, Bryce Tedford and Andy Guibord are guiding Smallmouth Bass in the Delta all summer.

I think there are SMB scattered all through the Sacramento River without much attenuation.

Bryce told me it was a good fishery to take a beginner along with a more advanced angler.
