Default Figuring out where to fish or where the fish are hiding...

When shore fishing for lakes how to determine where the fish are holding, what depth etc? What types of areas do you look for when you approach a lake?

Do you target steep drop offs accessible from shore?

    Sheltered coves?

Particular type of bottom structure, sandy vs rocky?

    Stream inlets?

When approaching a new lake I try to look at water clarity, shaded vs full sun, cover, and areas that have decent shore drop offs. I like to be able to fish a variety of depths before moving to another spot.

Thoughts and ideas? What about you?

    Wind can be a factor......

In a floating devise you can position yourself with the wind to cast/present to rising fish.

    Weed beds can be good.
