    Default Carson Rivers and Creeks

Can anyone help us out? As long as I have been fishing around these parts, I have only driven through Markleeville area on the way to the EW and other fisheries.

My wife and I have a very rare weekend pass from our young children, thanks Grandma!

Anyway, we have decided to spend the weekend in South Lake and explore the Carson area. She can fly fish but has been busy being a mommy so much, would like to give her the beginner easy pickings tour fly fishing this weekend to knock off the rust lol. I figure flows are high and at least a little muddy in many places.

Anyone been up that way? I would love to find fishable water on Wolf, Silver, Markleeville or other tribs, just to escape possible crowds. Too high and early for those?

PM if you have anything you could share but would prefer to not share with every lurker lol.

If the EC is fishable, I also wouldn’t mind hiking down in below Hangman’s and chucking streamers either.

Any and all suggestions considered and extremely grateful for your time. Thanks to all on this board.

Pleasant Valley Creek near Markleeville is a small private water trout stream.

Last price I saw was $110 per day per angler?

You could call to get a stream report.

Bill, heard PV Creek is not open right now. Property is up for sale is the rumblings I heard so don't think that is an option.

As for the Carson's they are more freestone so early season running high and very cold. East Carson is not very fishable right now. Its in 1200-1400 CFS depending on time of day and off color. This will fish good in about a month or so. The West Carson is a better option but its also running pretty high at about 300 CFS. Not nearly like last year when the meadow section was flooded. I would focus on that area if I was headed up that way and if you walk from the bridges you can generally get some quiet time.

If anything its a perfect setting and the views are tough to beat.

Jim Crouse said Pleasant Valley Creek is open but is also for sale.

Maybe look at Indian Creek reservoir?

Call 'Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters' or check their reports page:

My old friend Victor Babbitt has a cutting edge destination fly shop in Tahoe City for many years,

They are famous for their guides too.

They would have the right flies for all fisheries around Lake Tahoe.

Still a tad early for the creeks and most of what you are looking for. But as stated do some hiking and you can generally get away from the majority of the crowds.

Pleasant Valley is a couple weeks or so away from being open. Still a bit high as well.

I’m heading to west Carson this weekend. What flies and nymphs should I bring? I’m still new to the fly fishing scene and need help picking out patterns. Plan on starting at 88 & 89 bridge and hiking down river to get away from the crowds.

A West Carson regular said they like Peacock bodied flies like the Zug Bug.

I guess a #12/14 Prince nymph would work early on?
