I recently bought some Trouthunter 2X and 3X tippet material. When I looked at the 2X spool, the strength listed on the spool was only 7.39 lbs.; last year it was 11.0 lbs. The 3X spool was labeled 5.67 lbs. while last year it was labeled 8.6 lbs. I emailed Trouthunter and they said that the tippet material is the same as last year. However, the label now displays the "fishing strength" as opposed to the "tensile strength". Here are the differences in definitions:
"fishing strength": The resistance of material with an overhand or wind knot to breaking under tension.
"tensile strength": The resistance of material to breaking under tension.
They said that their new label has caused a lot of confusion. The material is produced in Japan and also the new label. Bottom line is that the material itself has not changed, just the (confusing) label.
