    Hi,

Been reading the forum for several years and thought it was about time I joined. Started fly fishing over 45 years ago, fishing with my Dad in Michigan. Moved to CA about 27 years ago and fished all over the state, as well as many of the western states. I'm a fanatic! On the board of the directors for the Diablo Valley Fly Fishermen (DVFF) club. Just completed building a drift boat which you can see the photo slideshow on the DVFF homepage. Fish moving water for trout, steelhead, shad and whatever else will take my fly.

    See you on the forum.

    Welcome troutie.......

Everyone here is so lucky to be into the great sport of fly fishing.

Life without a great passion is not as exciting as a life with one or two?

A friend of mine in Reno, Nevada built a wooden drift boat one winter.

Early season he took it to the Truckee River at very high flows.

He said that he basically turned it into a million toothpicks that first day.

    Sad.......it was totaled.

Ok note to self. Don't take boat on the Truckee. Nevertheless wooden self bailing boats are the boat of choice for the biggest of whitewater like the Grand canyon.

Wooden drift boats survive better in humid climates like Oregon and Washington......
