Russian metaling?

A little birdy told me the Russian River was low, clear and had steelhead in it right now.

This would be more like lake fishing than river fishing in the lower reaches of the tide water pools.

You need a #7, 8 or 9 weight rod with a selection of slow singing lines.

Have some medium size dark flies for low light and some small light colored flies for bright conditions.

I am sure the tide will effect some of these areas.

Be respectful of the locals who think they own the river......ha ha.

Feb/March can be very good................

You bet! I grew up on the Russian. With all the wineries along the river it doesn't take much for the Russian to muddy up. I'd imagine way back before all the wineries and Ag bs along the river...way back when it probably took a bit longer for it to muddy up. But these days if you piss in that river too long it muddies up and takes a while to clear back up. But those fish deserve some water. Keep on coming baby!

Unless you had family or your goal was to visit the wineries, the prime cause for the fishery's demise, it would be a very boring week.

We lifted this link from Dan Blanton's board, an article and history of Casa Mar on Rio Colorado in Costa Rica.....many grand times by many grand people. The place now gone mostly due to people and their activities, and many people gone mostly due to age. You merely have to substitute Rio Colorado with Rio Russian (Russian River) and you would have it's (R.R.) history too.
Yes, there have been a few scattered fish around, and those that have brought a LOT of luck or a LOT of constant knowledge to the game, have gleaned a measure of success....if success is measured by fish encountered, LDR'ed or not.
For a lot of us, the harvest is not contacts, but merely memories.....but we got LOTS of them.
Oh yeah, the river is dirty now. Thank goodness, we sure need it....
