Thread: DIY boat dolly

    Default DIY boat dolly

Looking to make a dolly or bunk with wheels to transport my 8' pram to the river or lake. I was thinking of using balloon tires to get over soft gravel. Seen lots of ideas on the web but can't seem to decide on one. Anyone here use one or have a good design to make one.

These are the cats meow in the kayak world. You could probably cobble some stuff together for your pram. They do sell kits and components. Use the balloon tires.

They use these big balloon tires on the East Coast and Gulf Coast of the United States for beach fishing carts.

I had a dinky collapsible kayak dolly. I adapted it for my pram by attaching a 3/8 threaded rod axle with hose clamps. Then I bolted on some 12" wheels I found at Tractor Supply. It was ugly but it worked very well. Wish I had a pic to share.

A basic Tee made from wood and a couple of tires works real well. I've used one for years that I built out of scrap wood I had lying around. I'll post a pic when I get a chance. I've got an 8ft pram also.

He said that years ago people who lived up near our north coast rivers would make a really light weight one man pram out of thin plywood. They were called "sneak boats" that anglers would put on their backs and pack to the tidewater pools for salmon and Steelhead.

Not my video, not my dolly (got rid of it a few years back), but this is pretty darn close to what I rigged up:
