Thanks for the advice Goby. My whole point with with AKC is that at least there are recoverable lineages at that point. Whereas a dog from a shelter or a rescue often has no health history. Hell, most times the shelter doesn't even know what breeds the dog is, so how are they supposed to know if the parents had any health issues?

We got this dog at a place called Homeward Bound in Sutter County. It is a rescue shelter that specializes in retriever and retriever mixes. She was probably 2 years old when we got her and a duck toller/aussie mix. They pulled her out of the Stanislaus County animal control shelter. She was likely part of a backyard breeder operation, had one litter of puppies then either escaped or he did not like her and dumped her on the street. Hates cats but otherwise a great dog.

My new pup. Irish Wheaten Terrier, 5 months old. Haven't taken her fishing yet, but she loves the water.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy new fly fishing gear and that usually does the trick.

My wife and kids found a Borador 9 month old puppy (Border Collie X Black Lab) at the local animal shelter 4-1/2 years ago. She has been the best dog ever. She was found at some scummy drug dealing compound in Rural Mendocino County after drug raid. Starving with broken back...near death. Vertebrae fused perfectly, now 40 lbs and the Dog has been the most loyal friend and so good with kids. Save a dog and give them a home full of love and care. Best thing ever!

There's a reputable flat coat breeder in Davis if interested in a dog you don't see every day that combines some of the better traits of a lab and golden.
