Bull Elk
I went to the coast last week looking for fish. No bright salmon or early steelhead to report but I did go on a charter boat for crab, lings and rockfish which was pretty fun. I had not done that for a couple of years and the ocean conditions and the ling bite were good so it was the time to go.
Along the way I learned that there are some Roosevelt Elk in a couple of the drainages north of Fort Bragg. I spotted a bull grazing along a creek and stopped to get a picture. Things were going well and he grazed while I shot the first photo below. He then decided he had seen enough of me and it was time to let me know that he was the big boss on Cottoneva Creek and that I needed to move along. He grunted and made a bluff charge and before my brain got my feet moving I shot the second picture. Kind of an interesting snarl on his face. Scary stuff.
