    Default How is Xcalak

How is the fishing down in Xcalak? A guy just offered a trip there for a week for under $2k, lodging and meals included. I looked at the pictures, and it looks like small bones, and permit. Do the tarpon migrate there in the spring. Thinking about trying someplace new. Thanks for any input, Mems.

Xcalak is great. Very low key, no big hotels or condos, a very laid back and beautiful place. Most fishing is in Chetumal Bay, and the bonefish are a bit bigger than the ones you catch in ascension bay. Baby tarpon, good snook and of course permit and barracuda are always possible. I have been 3 times, and would go again....

We have two different trips there that we represent......

The new Espiritu Santo Bay Lodge is located much better and you fly down there to avoid the 6 hour drive.

Thanks guys for the information. Bill why is there such a price difference between the two lodges. Is the transportation from Cancun really that expensive?

Mahahual is another good option. It's about an hour from Xcalak and about an hour and a half from Espiritu Santo Bay. Really good baby tarpon and snook fishing in the surrounding lakes. Also permit and bones off the beach.

Mahahual is also much more developed than Xcalak and Espiritu Santo. Excellent food and lodging in Mahahual. No real "fishing lodge" type place there though. More of a DIY type of place.
