Default WTB: 10wt rod and reel

    Hi all-
Looking for a 10 weight outfit (rod and reel) primarily for salt water use. I am looking for a decent fast action rod with a solid reel that can handle the salt and a drag that can handle the fish that swim in it... (tarpon, permit, bonefish, etc.) My approximate budget is $600 for the outfit, let me know what you've got!
*Would like to buy both rod and reel together, but will consider buying separate

    Thanks,
    Henry

The Redington 'Predator' salt water series at $299 new with a lifetime warranty is our pick for a value rod that works.

Waterworks Guru 4 at $269 is a great choice.

Then check with Jim Christensen at Kiene's American Fly Fishing for the best fly line once you have a trip planned.

A 10 weight outfit is good for medium Tarpon, Trevally, Jacks, Barracuda, Roosterfish and Dorado.

Most popular size rods for salt water flats fishing are 8, 9 and 10.

12 weights are good for big Tarpon, giant Giant Trevally, Tuna, Sailfish and Marlin.

Bill's rod recommendation sounds good.Consider pairing it with Redington's 9/10 Behemoth reel for $129.95 and pocket the change. This reel will accommodate up to 400 yards of 50lb.braid backing plus your fly line.Did I mention the 30lb.drag?...add Rio's 400grain GT line for big nasties.Good luck!
    Cheers
