Default Silver Fork American water report 6/3

I headed up Highway 50 for some recon on Saturday. Had to manage the pup, so didn't fish. He loved the snow and water.

Silver Fork is high, but plenty fishable. Fairly clear water - 2-3 foot visibility or so. Won't be crossing it any time soon, but there's lots of good holding water to throw some nymphs or streamers.

Too much snow to make it out over the top to Mormon-Emigrant trail with only 2WD.

Still a lot of water that has to come through the system. Caples Creek is extremely high.

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to get up there sometime soon.

Thanks for the post. Did you happen to get the water temp?

No snow until about 6800 feet when I tried to get over the top to Hwy 88.

Didn't measure water temp, but not super cold. 55 or above I'd guess.

Dog swam in it and didn't seem to mind a bit.

Taking the water temp in streams tells a lot.

Below 50 degrees on average is kinda tough for fly fishing for average anglers.

Plenty of planters being caught. My neighbor was up there this last weekend and saw plenty of people catching fish.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Where do they plant on that river?
I usually fish from the trailhead about 8 mi in and up. That all seems like natives.

Hmmm .....I was up at the silver fork and it was raging waters. Certainly I fished some slower water but even there you would need a couple on ounces of lead to get a decent drift. Big skunk and did not see anyone catching fish or even even fishing......I did see some dare devils doing white water kayaking risking their lives......My advise, wait another month or longer for the waters to be fishable.

Has anyone had eyes on the silver fork in the last 5 days? I am totally unfamiliar with "fishable" flows up there and what gauges to look at. Trying to decide what to do on Saturday and/or Sunday.
