Road Trip....Fishing and Fall Color's 9/18-23/16

This time of the year you can enjoy the beautiful fall colors and get in some great fishing in the Eastern sierra's....but you need to be flexible this time of the year with the weather and other things that can happen.
The first day we stopped at Heenan Lake for a couple of hours of fishing, caught a couple of nice 22" cutts, during a midge hatch that was coming off at 8-10 am that had some cutts up on the surface around the weed beds in the Southeast corner of the lake....water temp 62. The only fly that worked for me was my 5 color streamer on inter line and a 15 ft. leader fished around the weed beds.
After a lunch at Waker Kit festival....there was no wind blowing for kite flying....unusual for the Eastern Sierra's, we continual down 395 to Mammoth's Lake to our room and right into a forest fire 7 miles Northeast of Mammoth's Lake which was full of smoke.....bummer.
Day 2... we got up to go fish Crowley Lake and found the lake with a thick layer of smoke, and decide to get out of the smoke and go up to see the Bristle cone pines, lots of clean air at 11,000 ft.
Day 3... with the smoke gone from Crowley we fished the 6 bay's area, i caught a couple of nice rainbow's before the wind came up and blew us off, we decided to have lunch in the fall color's at Pie in the sky on Rock Creek.....it was perfect timing for the fall colors at Rock Creek.
Day 4...with a storm blowing in we fish Crowley in the morning, caught 4 chunky 18" trout and a perch before we took off for Reno.
Day 5...we decided not to fish Lake Davis today, to much wind, rain, and possible snow, we took in the fall color's of the Street Vibrations motorcycle festival.....wow
