    Default Klamath Mouth Blows Open

The increase in flows on the Klamath has blown the mouth straight out, kind of. Before that happened, the mouth fishing closure was extended to the 22nd. In a matter of days, the ENTIRE QUOTA of salmon for the section from the 101 bridge to the 96 bridge was caught! At this time, only catch and release of salmon will be allowed in that section of river. Two jacks will still be legal. This will have a major impact on many individuals and businesses in the north state.

Has the increased flow dropped the river water temp enough to protect the salmon? In your previous post, you were worried about gill rot and a possible big loss of salmon.

This first release of water came from the Klamath side. The weather has also cooled some and the river temp now is 69. They have released more water from the Trinity side and it will reach the lower river on Saturday. This will be colder water and should drop the temps some more. I see there a fire is going around Weitchpec...20% contained.

Looks like about 900 CFS bump the past week?

Fires can be good for salmonids in the river, the smoke blocks some of the sun and cools the river...
