The T is seeing lower flows around town, and due to surface releases from Lake Tahoe has gotten warmer.....
58-66 deg. Clear/green.
Below Boca flows are still up....
Getting close to a hoot owl closure.....
Wet wading is comfortable...so the water is getting a bit warm for the fish..
Coolest water at dawn. A good time to swing your streamer.
A sparse hatch AM. Then a spinner fall mid-morning. BWOs, March Browns.
Mid day is slowing more....a hopper might work when afternoon wind blows....the males mating flight puts them on the menu..

Near dusk the window seems short, and for those with game, after dark.............It's OK in NV county..
Lil yellow sallies and Golden Stones.
A variety of Mays popping...sz 20 to 12. Sparse and unpredictable....Have had some success with a sz14 PED dry....
Some parts of the river have a pulse of Caddis that's impressive!!
Mostly glossisoma but a some larger Caddis too.
Try swinging a soft hackle in the bubbles below pocket water.
This time of year there is a wide variety of food forms. Have seen Dobson flies, Crane flies, small flying ants,
(the red/black epoxy is worth a try.),seeing cray parts......
Some patterns get over fished by the "universal fisher".....sometimes it pays to think outside the box........
Many midges......large and small....
Weekdays are best.........walk a little...
C&R only works if....we Treat'em nice.
Overplaying a fish is possible with warmer water. I would rather risk a break off on a short fight, than catch a lunker and kill it.

Take them to the bubbles....if we give them love, they just get bigger.....

Hearing many stories of big fish getting away.....even very good fishers.....the fish know what we are up to.
And that we fish barbless.........bring A game.

Been the dog days for me Jim. Got a nice brown a few weeks back at dusk but midday is better swimming or catching some z's. Ran into some peeps in a few of my fishy spots. Great guys and I have to say the canyon folk have always shown me the best etiquette. I'm off to the higher stuff now. Time to get some long hikes in down in the eastern sierra. Always nice hearing from you. Thx for the report.

Thought I would update...
Had a "River Runs" moment today.
A bug on the neck (golden stone) match it, tye it on, and catch a fish.......
Easy peazy......
Although, it was a good match, in a good spot, and a good drift....
I suspect there is less food availible in the water column because of frequent seines I do that produce little.
They seem to be looking up a little more.
A Burks Hopper works too....

Perhaps I should mention that I teach an advanced "sit-down" method.......
The goal of the curriculum .....to make a drift, and catch a fish........in the spirit of one and done.
Sometimes, the slower you go, the more you know.

You weren't kidding!
Was on the truckee today near Olympic Heights, swimming with the kiddos-- I've never been in the truckee when it's that warm. It was great for swimming-- but I'd leave the rod in the car for now unless it's early morning.
Take a ride over the Yuba pass into Sierra City....fished 2 evenings last Wed and thursday and it was on. Lots of 7-12 inchers with attitudes, on dry flies each night. Nothing big, but a ton of fun. No one hurt.

As I said, upper river is warmer......
Down lower we benefit from releases.
The T's fishing well right now, so I for one, ain't goin' nowhere.....
I realized years ago, if I go other places....
I can't get good here......
Seems like it is the time of year that can require a bit of finese..
The fish are shopping closely..
A good drift is manditory. That means your bobber going MUCH slower than the bubbles....

Good question..
The best answer I guess, would be no.
I have learned not to fish out of habit.
We all do it.....
I call this deadly syndrome....................
the "universal fisherman".
The homework......is to watch how most fish...then, don't fish that way.
Instead..I walk to the T, just like the Henry's or the Snake. I see what's going on....and fish that way.
Nobody there wanted to fish a dry at high noon, because it slowed......I just fished deep.....the bobber is looked down on there.....

I enjoyed beating the bank with a streamer at midnight....because nobody was out but me. I learned my favorite stretch well enough to boat by sound....rocks have a voice....

Fish learn how we fish...so change it up....

If you want an ID. tip.....on the Harriman Ranch you ONLY fish dries..you stalk a fish, no silly blind casting. Obtain his position, range.....then perfectly match his food choice, then......fish down to him.
God couldn't get a perfect drift across those currents......BEAUTIFUL.....

Not worth the bump up.
But generally, the Truckee from Tahoe to Boca is too low and warm to fish in the PM. Near a creek confluence maybe..
Please give them a break. Take them to the bubbles, make them fight a bit on release.....make sure they are ready.


I will boost the Treat Box, for early coffee and the breakfast bomb.....
7-11 center on Donner Pass Road. If there was a food emot a con thing...
(It's a morning shift thing...you know who you are....)
