Default August at the mouth of the Klamath or Rogue Rivers for Salmon & Half-pounders.

Last August we were at the mouth of the Rogue River at Indian Creek RV Park. We were driving the first 20 miles or so looking for Half-pounder Steelhead very early in the morning.

We found out that there is a huge fresh salmon fisheries there at that time with hundreds of angler trolling sardines for them in boats just inside the mouth of the river.

I think the mouth of the Klamath River has the same deal going on in August.

These two destinations are very popular and a great way to beat the heat.

    Did you find any half-pounders?

Not much.....we were in late August.

I think September would be better.

We were in between the big schools that come in mid-August on.

    Salmon fishing was crazy good......

Yeah, I've always thought that August can be hit or miss on the Lower Rogue.

I take it was a boat trip not wading. Am I close Bill?

Lower Klamath is mostly a jet boat trip.

Lower Rogue has a road system.

Be considerate of water temps on the lower K. On a good water year or with some weather you may be fine fishing early, but temps can get lethally warm in a hurry in August. There will be fish around, but by late morning you may be better off fishing for salmon to bonk and leaving the steelhead be.
