I have been trying to promote single handed Spey casting for years now.

You can fish for anything (bass, trout, steelhead) in a brushy, confining stream with a weight forward short head full floating fly line.

For single handed Spey casting you need a full line with no loop to loop connections like a Royal Wulff 'Ambush' line.

Terry Thomas just told that the Río 'Intouch Chucker' and Airflo 'Spey Switch' are both 100 foot lines.

Once you learn two handed techniques, it really opens up a new world with your single handed rod. Especially for nymphing, but with streamers and dries too. It just makes directional changes so much more efficient.

About 10 years ago I was fishing in the mangroves in the MEX Yucatan for baby Tarpon with Keith Kaneko.

He was way into two handed Spey casting and he was doing those Spey casts with his single handed fly rod in the confined back country.

That when I got educated to it's amazing line control......

You need a short head or short belly or Skagit type weight forward full length floating line for in short casting in brushy situations.

Any thoughts about what rods would work best for this technique. I have a nice (old) Fenwick 11wt glass rod that's been collecting dust since the 70's. Has a nice slow action. Good or not so Good?

    That would be very tiring.....

It would be good for King Salmon on the Smith River or Chetco River down in the tide water from a pram?

I think most 5 through 7 weight fly rods would work.

You just need to get the right type of fly line and the right size line on the rod you are using.

I took a single handed rod spey casting cast from Jeff Putnam years before I got into two hand rods and used spey casts while fishing for trout in the Sierras. Really helped in bushy and narrow rock canyon conditions. My fishing buddies (Jeff F. and EricO) were impressed!
