That lake has a very interesting history. At one time they killed off everything and planted Cutthroat trout in there.
Use to have a ton of small pan fish that the big fish fed up on.
I remember big callibaetis mayfly hatches.

I fished Martis the first day it opened. Wasn't this a Cal Trout project
Its had some issues the last decade or two. There's a faultline directly under the dam face. Minor tectonic movement has caused a crack in the dam face and made it less structurally sound, so they keep it at minimum pool most of the year. Coupled with all the golf courses upstream washing fertilizer, it gets choked with weeds every spring once the weather heats up. There's still a handful of big fish in there, but its not like it was.

That is a great catch!! Especially after what Dan just said and what I have heard about Martis. Did you get any numbers on that bad boy. Looking like 10+ pounds and maybe around a 30 inches!! Did it put up a big battle?
