Default Lake fishing with the switch rod

Thinking of doing some lake fishing this year and wanted to bring along the switch rods. Anyone have rigging recommendations? Probably going to go for a little of everything, from 10" trout to Pyramid Lake leviathans. Scandi? Skagit? Other? I'm an intermediate caster.

Rio's Outbound Short or Airflo's Sniper lines are good choices for overhead casting. Although both are already overlined, I still find it helpful to add one or two line sizes up. Example: on my 5110 Sage TCX I use the OB-S 7. I pair them with 14 Airflo poly leaders. The floater pl's work well with indos and the sink leaders work well stripping flies.

The Rio switch chucker is a good all around line for lakes. Was out at Pyramid and met this great guy Victor who was seriously slaying fish... A local from Truckee. He would just sit in his chair cast out farther than most and hook up regularly. He is one of those guys that never gets out of his chair... Cast, wait a few minutes hook fish and net fish, all while sitting in the chair. Use a double spey and you can fling an indicator rig or a streamer rig really far. I bought a Switch Chucker as they are on sale right now and it works great. Very versatile. If you are going steely fishing though you should also have a reel set up with a Skagit Max short.

I went at the end of March. It was an awesome trip, the fishing was some of the best I've ever had anywhere. I might just move out there next January and live on a ladder!

I think a two handed fly rod would be good for wade fishing in lakes.

*On single handed and two handed fly rods we mostly we use full sinking lines for lake fishing to get a straight line to the fly while stripping.

**Call the shop to get ideas for rod size and lines for wading in lakes with your two handed fly rod.

    Bill,

It works, currently using a 5 wt 11' switch, on the lakes out of a float tube, works really nice. If your wading and and there is a lot of vegetation that will snag running line, just use the ole trusty stripping basket from the surf fishing equipment pile!
