    Default 2016 AR Shad Reports

I bet there will be a million shad this year after the water comes down. Seems warm out there. I bet the first fish will be early.

As a Shadaholic myself, I sure hope so. It could turn out to be one of the best seasons in years.

Come on guys go easy! You're going to get Jeff thinking, twitching in restless nights of sleep. He's going to start foaming at the mouth hook setting in his sleep!

Seems too early to talk about shad?

When are the first ones caught in the Sac metro area?

A few years back when the flows were up I had some epic days the first week of April right below I-80 bridge. Was cruising for stripers and came across a huge pod of shad. Caught fish there for a few days on every cast. Has not been like that since.

April is a good month to start looking.

They will start catching them at the mouth of the American River and at the mouth of the Feather River in April/May.

June is usually the top month for wading up river on most Nor Cal rivers.

Early and late in the day is usually best too.

Jeff Ching is the "gold standard" as far as how are run is each year.

Many, like myself, will go out on occasion and it is hard for them to be a judge of how it is going.

Early on, before the water clears, larger flies might work but after the river clears they use much smaller patterns than we did many years ago.

I always thought the best time was after the weather turned really hot and the college girls started floating by. The best fishing might of already passed but the scenery was really nice.

Mark, I've already been thinking about this years run. If the water stays high we should be in for a good one. I love fishing for them when it is 12K+ cfs. First, no one in his right mind would be out wading and second, they are 3 ft from the bank.

It seems Jeff is not the only Shada-daba-dooster foaming at the mouth! Lets pray it keeps going.
