12-28 With a break in the weather i decided to give Rancho Seco a try for some trout, and winter bass fishing with a indicator and my balance fly. After stopping at my favorite taco wagon to pick up some snacks i got to the lake about 10 am, didn't see any action going on so i fished the northeast end coves for trout, and the deeper water for bass.
I didn't get any grabs or see any trout actively on the surface in the back cove's, so i moved out to the deeper water to fish for bass with a indicator, after sitting there for a couple of hours with the indicator doing nothing, i got cold and called it a day......a fish locator would be helpful.
12-30 Some members from the GBF club decided to go fish Rancho Seco even after my no fish report, so with nothing better to do i decided to take my pram and my fish locator to see if i could see where those bass were suspended at, so after a quick stop at the taco wagon i went to the south boat ramp to launch my pram, i motored around looking for suspended bass, all the fish that showed up were on the bottom in 20-30 ft of water, i did try to fish for them but after a couple of hours and no grabs i headed back to the boat ramp, and while i was motoring along the dam a hatchery truck drove by with a string of cars chasing it to the boat ramp. There were 30 people standing on the dock fishing, and i could see trout swimming around the little cove, so i drop my anchor and started hooking trout after trout, after about a hour the action slowed down and the dock open up for me to take my boat out safely ...... WOW
So if you have nothing better to do you might want to grab a taco and head to Rancho Seco for a tug.
