Restore the Delta statement on Federal Drought Bill for California

Washington D.C. -- Regarding the Western Water and American Food Security Act of 2015 (H.R. 289 today Senator Feinstein announced that “…by early next week we’ll have a bill that the state and federal government can sign off on. At that point I plan to present the bill to Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Murkowski and Ranking Member Cantwell and discuss the best way to move the bill forward through regular order.”

In response, Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, Executive Director, Restore the Delta issued the following statement:
“Senators Feinstein and Boxer promised the people of California a drought bill that would be transparent. They promised us no secret negotiations. Senator Feinstein is assuring the public that she has worked out a good compromise with Valley Republican Congressional leaders who are seeking more and more exported water from the Bay-Delta estuary during this extreme drought. However, we, the public, have not seen what has been negotiated. Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer need to keep their word. The Bay-Delta estuary is on the verge of complete collapse as a result of over pumping as we enter the fifth year of drought. The people who live here will be greatly impacted with environmental and economic impacts it the estuary collapses. We have a right to know how this legislation will impact the estuary, the fisheries, our farms, our home, and the source of our livelihood -- fresh water flows.”

    Default Water Bill Dead....????

OK,.... I'm confused. The SacBee reported today that the bill is now dead but is due to be revised/resubmitted early next year.

I believe what Mike is saying is that the bill was reported dead as a diversion to opposition for it being passed under the radar...

If (we) the opposition perceive that it is already dead, then they (Repub Congressional leaders supporting a fast pass of the bill without public disclosure for review) know (or at least hope) that our guard will be lowered as they sneak the new (disguised) bill through as a part of a larger package deal.

I'm pissed but not surprised by such antics... Thank goodness for Barbara P looking out for us~

    Thanks

    Default Water Bill????....

Thanks for the clarification. Accuracy in reporting on this by the SacBee has been mixed at best.

The budget bill was supposed to've been voted on yesterday and that bill included the water language. Has anyone heard whether that language was deleted or not???
