    Default Searching for Winter Steel

Looks to be a decent amount of rain in the forecast for the next ten days up north. Anyone have any plans to get out there and search for some early arriving winter steelhead? I plan on heading north in three weeks and most likely hit the coast (Those rivers that are open) in hopes of hooking up with some early winter run fish.

Once the first real rains hit the Eel Basin, there is usually a decent little push of early fish that head up the South Fork. Once the river drops into shape, the fish tend to hold in the lower river from Meyers Flat to the mouth. There are some really nice spots along the Avenue of the Giants between Meyers and Weott. Now getting these fish to take a fly is a whole different story. The fish in the main Eel tend to be a little more "fly friendly". But the big Eel takes much longer to come into shape.

I'll be up there with the new pontoon hopefully soon. Please post a report if you go.
