Default Rugged 2 day Trinity float...was epic.

Did a 2 day overnighter from Lewiston to Junction City with the boys last week. 3 of us, a cooler of beers, some hammocks and almost enough flies made for a pretty amazing trip.

Most everything was hitting on the swing. Like the last very second of the swing...you'd dead drift the run, let it swing out...feel it straighten and wiggle a little...then BAM. Our buddy / guide Steve Sewell ties a pretty epic bird's nest variation that was DEADLY. Classic wet styles did well also, a few fish on dead drifted Pat's rubberlegs and Big Birds.

Rain came in pretty constant the first day, warm ups were regular and needed.

Purposefully didn't bring a ton of food to incentivize us to catch some hatchery fish and take them out of the system. Steelhead tacos on the side of the river were the jam.

Shanty City. If you haven't set up in the rain, in the dark, in a random spot on the side of the river, without enough rain tarps...you haven't lived in the lap of luxury.

And then you realize you camped on top of a grave.

Squared off against some solid, classic Trinity fish. Definitely fresh and strong. Way more halfpounders in the system. We boated easily 40 fish over the trip, some bigger than others, some wild.

    Joel with a fresh one.

Poor man's bloody mary, silver bullets splashed with spicy V8 make for a solid 9am breakfast.

A lot of people guide the Trinity, but only a few know every corner and every run. If you want to see it in a way you haven't before, and get into a bit of an adventure while you're out there, lemme know and I'll connect you with the right guy.

Thanks Gregg.......I love that river.......5 star post.

In the movie, "Rivers of a Lost Coast", there is several pieces of old 8 mm movie footage from the 1970s of me on the Trinity River shot by Joe Shirshac.

    Gregg,
Great post; it ain't really steelheading without some funky weather. That drift always looked like a winner.
