    Default Eugene then Medford

Taking my daughter up to school in Eugene this weekend and want to fish my way home to Vacaville Ca. One maybe two days in Eugene on the willimatte a day on the Rogue at the KOA seems close to the river then the upper Sac maybe a little feather action? The California side I have fished before. The Oregon rivers never before. Any advice. Will my Sac river/ American setups be fine? I am thinking do what works on the American and Sac but would love any tips if there are any.

Summer run steelhead on the Willamette system are tanking this year. ~2,000 so far vs. 20,000 last year over the falls to date. Tough bite. Maybe check out the McKenzie for trout or the rare steelie?

They used to like leech patterns up there.

Rogue seems like faring better this year but also warm drought water.

Enjoy Oregon, Go Ducks and good luck to your daughter at UO if that's where she is going!

Maybe fish the North Umpqua for adult steelhead.

Half-pounders are in the lower Rogue R now.

Some summer runs in the Medford area.

Upper Sac usually sucks this time of year.

Lower Sac below Redding should be good.

I lived up there for a while. Fish the McKenzie - in Medford - the South Fork of the Rogue River and if you have a tube you might want to go check out Bolen Lake between Happy Camp and Cave Junction. All great places!

I went to UO and lived in Eugene for 4+ years in early mid 90's. McKenzie is your best bet and you'll have to go up river. Temps too warm in lower river around Springfield to yield much success this time of year but you don't need to go far. Deerhorn area was always good and provided good public access. On the way down I would check out Rogue. Umpqua not an easy river to do a drive by. Bolt all the way down to Mt. Shasta and fish the sac by Dunsmuir. Stay at the BW Treehouse and get a good breakfast at Black Bear diner. This is bringing back memories as a dumb college kid driving in a 69' Dart down I-5 back home to the east bay

Be aware that many rivers in OR are subject to afternoon fishing closures. Check the ODFW site for specific info.

Wow you all are great! Thanks for all of the input. Especially the special regs. Not being able to fish the evening bite sucks. That's my favorite time. I will post results when I get back. Leaving Saturday and be back Wednesday.

Bolen Lake? It has been a few years since I have been over the road between Happy Camp and Takilma/Cave Junction and I do no remember there being a lake. Approximately where is this lake Lance? (Cannot find it on Google Maps)
