Bill,
Forgetting this "uber--" thing, what are your thoughts about taking a full size camera to Christmas Island. I love my Canon but find it a bit large to be dragging around all day in a back pack.
I started looking at both another Canon in D30, or an Olympus ??? something with 16 megapixels. Both are waterproof.
Is it the lens quality or the number of pixels that gives the best reproduction?
Thanks, Tony

On one of my many trips to Christmas Island, the Kiribati government had hired a professional photographer to shoot still photos of the entire island chain for use with promoting it for tourism.
This photographer was on Christmas Island for many weeks filming.
We talked with him at the Captain Cook Hotel where everyone use to stay in the good old days.
'
He said he had a dozen cameras but after a month only one still worked in the humidity of the tropics, an old back up manual Minolta SLR film camera.
The high humidity is hard on all electronics.
I would take a small, high quality, water proof, point and shoot digital camera.....with extra batteries and chips.
