    Default American River Flow Question

Can anyone explain this? I wish it was my stock portfolio, but it's not. Is it normal to let out this much water at this time of year, for this long... in a normal year, let along this drought?

I've been told and have read that there are a few reasons.
Now I'm not a scientist, not am I associated whatsoever with any water agency, so this may be just opinions....

To help fight the salinity in the delta, "keep it at bay"...
To fulfill some water contracts....... Of course...
To help the salmon in the Sac, because Oroville and Shasta are so low and not releasing as much as they should be this time of year.

Personally I think it's a huge gamble on if the El Niño comes through and dumps on us.
Hopefully it does. We will have room in the reservoirs.

In a normal year, that makes totally makes sense. But in this year? I 'm no expert, so trying to understand the strategy... If there really is one. Went out today and it's gone up a bit, too.

Lower American River = 3,280 cfs FO
Lower Feather River = 3,456cfs Gridley
Lower Sacramento River = 3,930cfs Colusa

*I think we are letting out a lot of water so we don't have salt water intrusion into the Delta so we can pump a lot of water down south.
