Default Fly casting instructor certification process - advice

I'm interested in learning more about what it takes and how to go about getting certified as fly casting instructor.

I'm interested in this for personal development rather than for income.

Any advice on what takes, courses, costs etc?

    Thanks
    Steve

Send Jeff Putnam a message, I'm sure he could tell you.

Just go over to the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club in Golden Gate Park.

Tons of wonderful old guys over there that are certified that will help you if you ask them.

    Oakland has a casting club.

Long Beach has a casting club.

Around Sacramento I would contact Jeff Putnam who is a FFF Master Instructor.

John Hogg is a certified FFF instructor who helps out a lot for free at the Granite Bay Fly Casters club.

I think you can find them all with Google.

If you are in SF, both Willy George and George Revel, both FFF MCIs, are fairly active at GGACC and involved in the casting education program. They probably have a lot of insight into the process, at least on the single-hand side (CCI/MCI).

There are some threads on speypages of various vintages about the two-hand (THCI) certification process, the bottom line being, it's a tough standard. Locally Jeff P, already mentioned, or Whitney Gould, would be the people with insight.

Thanks all, I found the above site and covers everything I need.

Getting somewhat ahead of myself here BUT I read that once certified you have to pay $50 per year to retain the official designation.
Not sure if I want to sign up to that right now given I won't use it commercially.

But I'm going to order the training materials on the site and work on it as a winter project, see where that takes me.

I can throw a tailing loop but not sure I cab do it deliberately...casting ponds are in my future.

Check our Leland in Sonoma for casting. They have a solid program and may be able to help.
