Default Jeff's 2015 AR Shad Reports

Ok, it's that time of year. Shad are showing up on the American slowly. The numbers have not been huge but there are shad being caught here and there. I've been hitting the lower river a couple of times a week for the last three weeks and lucked out last Saturday morning. Got 12 in a couple of hours mostly small males but some hens up to 3-4 lbs. Went back to the same spot in the afternoon and they were gone. It's still early in the run so I hope more show up on the A. The bump in flows should help. Stay tuned!

    Hey Jeff,
We surf fish twice a week or so @ the Farms-Blacks Beach; maybe one of your old haunts. Double overheads
predicted for Sunday. Big, but mushy today.
    Best,

Larry S, I lived in OB and surfed mostly at Sunset Cliffs and occasionally Mission Beach Jetty, Big Rock and Swamis (when it was huge).

I will be eyeballing this thread for sure.
Shad are a mega blast and I have yet to put in any time for them.
Maybe I will bump into you one day Jeff

Fished the lower. middle and upper AR this weekend and only caught one small male. There are shad at Verona and Freeport so hopefully a big push will come into the American with the higer flow. Right now there are no huge pods of fish and the only good fishing is after the sun goes down.

Early on in the run, like right now, they are usually caught from anchored boats at the mouth of the American and the mouth of the Feather River.

In low water, many years ago, we use to wade at the mouth of the Feather River near Verona. It is a good place for Stripers and Shad. Some of us would fish from anchored boats too. There are also SMB in that area. Might get to be a very popular place this spring....?

It's still slow on the American. Tried the lower river the last couple of night for nada. Seen a lot more anglers trying but no catching. Hope it picks up!

Caught quite a few on Friday on the lower river, after the sun warmed things up a bit. The higher flows are helping some. Some very large females mixed in with a couple of the smallest I've ever seen. It's all good. Tight lines.
